Electronically Excited States of Closed-Shell, Cyano-Functionalized Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Anions

چکیده

Few anions exhibit electronically excited states, and, if they do, the one or two possible excitations typically transpire beyond visible spectrum into near-infrared. These few, red-shifted electronic absorption features make tantalizing candidates as carriers of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs), a series mostly unknown, astronomically ubiquitous documented for over century. The recent detection benzonitrile implies that cyano-functionalized polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) may be present in space. presently reported quantum chemical work explores properties deprotonated benzene, naphthalene, and anthracene functionalized with single cyano group. Both emission states are explored. findings show larger energies possess both valence dipole bound 450–900 nm range oscillator strengths types >1×10−4. state transitions will produce slightly altered substructure from another making them appear to originate different molecules. known presence related molecules, differing natures each, wavelength peaks these PAH coincident DIB properties. Finally, methods utilized able predict dipole-bound within 1.0 meV window relative electron binding energy.

Closed-shell polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon cations: a new category of interstellar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Density functional theory has been employed to calculate the harmonic frequencies and intensities of a range of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) cations that explore both size and electronic structure effects on the infrared spectroscopic properties of these species. The sample extends the size range of PAH species considered to more than 50 carbon atoms and includes several representative...

Electronically Excited States of Interstellar Anions

In the search for carriers of the diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs), a nearly ubiquitous, as-of-yet unattributed interstellar absorption spectrum, new theories are being proffered to explain this astronomical phenomenon. One of these is that rarely occurring excited states of anions may be responsible for some of these features. Using state-of-the-art quantum chemical techniques we examine near...

Study of Excited States of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been used as graphene’s model of electronic structure characterization [1]. Since the initial graphene experiments, it has been used in several areas, such as sensors manufactory, organic semiconductors, spintronic and non-liner optics and the study of its electronic structure is very important for these applications [2]. Therefore, the characterizat...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon selected galaxies

Context. This is the fourth in a series of papers based on the ISOCAM Parallel Survey at 6.7 μm. While the first three papers have been devoted to active galactic nuclei (AGN), here we report on emission-line galaxies without AGN signatures in their optical spectra. Aims. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission has been found in both starbursts and modestly starforming galaxies, but the ...

Biological effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon derivatives.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are included in various environmental pollutants such as airborne particles and have been reported to induce a variety of toxic effects. On the other hand, PAH derivatives are generated from PAHs both through chemical reaction in the atmosphere and metabolism in the body.PAH derivatives have become known for their specific toxicities such as estrogenic/an...
